What’s included in Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.2?
Classic Metal Gear titles return, with some multiplayer left behind
Konami’s second Master Collection gathers a group of legacy Metal Gear entries that were previously difficult to play on modern hardware. The package notably brings Metal Gear Solid 4 out of its PlayStation 3 exclusivity and includes Peace Walker — whose cooperative mode has been reinstated — alongside several portable-era entries. The collection is being released across modern platforms including current PlayStation hardware, Nintendo’s Switch family, Xbox, and PC.
Key inclusions and limitations
- A modern-capable release of Metal Gear Solid 4, making the PS3-era single-player epic playable on current systems.
- Peace Walker, restored with its cooperative features intact, reviving the Monster Hunter–inspired multiplayer experience many fans missed.
- Additional portable and ancillary Metal Gear entries collected together to simplify access for long-time players.
Not everything made the cut: the original Metal Gear Online that shipped with Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be included. That multiplayer component is absent from the collection, while cooperative support for Peace Walker does return. The package also involves technical and distribution details that matter to Switch owners: physical editions carry download requirements on some versions of Nintendo’s hardware, so buyers may need to factor in extra storage or a download code when purchasing a boxed copy.
Why it matters
Releasing these titles together reduces a long-standing preservation gap for the series and opens key entries to a new generation of players. Restoring cooperative modes and making MGS4 broadly available also reframes how modern audiences can experience the saga. At the same time, the omission of Metal Gear Online is a reminder that not all legacy online services survive re-releases, and players hoping for a complete, modern-native online revival may still be disappointed.
