What’s new in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced?
Ubisoft’s rebuilt Black Flag adds combat, quests, and new features
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is being positioned by Ubisoft as a major rebuild of the 2013 pirate adventure—“rebuilt from the ground up” with a reworked combat system and stealth improvements. Instead of treating the remake like a lightweight port, Ubisoft says it will expand the experience with new quests and storylines.
Across the stories, Ubisoft messaging repeatedly steers expectations: the remake is described as faithful to the original and still character-driven, but not an RPG. That distinction matters because it suggests the project is meant to refine the original action-stealth flow and mission structure rather than pivot toward modern RPG systems.
The remake also introduces hardware-and-platform considerations. Ubisoft confirmation in the pool indicates the remake will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, while skipping Switch 2.
The release timing appears in multiple items: the remake is slated for July 9, with the PS5 Pro-focused messaging around “no compromise” performance tied to the same window.
Why it matters
For players choosing between replaying the original and moving to the remaster, Ubisoft’s pitch answers a common question: this isn’t just updated textures. The game is expected to feel more modern in moment-to-moment play due to combat and stealth changes, and it will contain additional mission content via new quests.
At the same time, Ubisoft’s insistence that it’s not an RPG is a guardrail. Fans who loved Black Flag’s classic structure can reasonably expect the remake to preserve the spirit of Edward Kenway’s solo adventure and shipboard life, rather than retooling it into a build-heavy progression system.
