Why did Stormgate lose multiplayer support?

Stormgate is set to lose its online multiplayer modes because its server partner was acquired by an AI company. Frost Giant Studios says it will patch the game so it can still be played offline, but the online modes won’t be restored after the end of April. This matters because RTS esports and community competition depend heavily on stable online infrastructure, not just the client game code.
