Meta adds affiliate links to Reels
Meta expands shopping features for creators
Meta is rolling out new shopping and ad tools meant to make it easier for creators to drive purchases directly from Facebook and Instagram. Key additions include affiliate marketing capabilities that let creators share product links inside Reels, as well as clickable “buy now” functionality for Facebook ads.
The practical shift is toward fewer steps between inspiration and checkout. Instead of directing followers to an external destination (such as a “link in bio” workflow), creators can embed shopping links in posts where audiences already spend time. That reduces friction for users and increases the chance that a product discovery session turns into a conversion.
For advertisers, Meta’s “buy now” button for Facebook ads is designed to tighten the advertising-to-purchase loop. By making the call to action more immediate inside the feed or ad experience, Meta aims to capture value closer to where the ad is seen.
Why it matters
- More native commerce: Shopping becomes a first-class feature inside everyday content formats.
- Affiliate enablement: Creators get tools to monetize recommendations without relying as heavily on external linking.
- Faster conversions: “Buy now” reduces the behavioral gap between clicking and buying.
The change signals Meta’s continued push to compete for consumer spending not just via ads, but through creator-driven storefront mechanics embedded in social media experiences. It also raises competitive pressure for third-party link-management tools that previously helped creators bridge content and product pages.
